Beneatha and George came back. Beneatha wanted to encourage him to a conversation of the plight of African-Americans. George said he wanted to marry a simple girl. Beneatha let him leave and said George is a fool. Mama came asked about the tour and told her leave George.

Mrs. Johnson came to visit and told them a family of black people was expelled by white people’s neighborhoods. She said they might also be experiencing such incidents when they first arrived there. They used discriminative words to describe colored people. Mama felt angry.

Walter’s boss said Walter has not been to work for three days. He drank everyday in the bar with his jazz band. He felt depressed and Mama finally gave him 3000 dollars for Beneatha’s tuition and also 3500 for him to keep. His confidence came back and he told Travis he got a plan to make them rich.
